Chauvin, Louisiana, September 2, 2008--Hurricane Gustav knocked out water service in Mark Colwart's home, but floodwaters provided him ample opportunity for a makeshift outdoor bath (more Hurricane Gustav photos).

Gustav, the first major U.S. Gulf Coast storm since 2005's Hurricane Katrina in 2005, made landfall in Louisiana on the morning of September 1. The category 2 storm came ashore some 70 miles (113 kilometers) southwest of New Orleans.

High winds toppled trees and knocked out power, but Gustav proved less severe than many had feared.
